40Years of Excellence History...

1969 - Harry Ayoade Akande attains MBA from America’s top business school,  north western university’s J L Kellogg School of management, to become their first black graduate. Entry to the MBA course was by scholarship following graduation in 1967 from Hampton University with a BSc – Accounts and Finance with the highest honors.

1970 - Harry Akande returns to Nigeria having field positions as financial consultant with KPMG Peak Marwick and standard Oil in the USA.

1971 - Akande International Corporation, later shortened to AIC limited, first registered.
Harry Akande becomes first president of NAFTEC (New Africa and Technical Electrical Company)representative company of General Electric (GE) of America.GE subsequently executes major Gas Turbine power projects at Ughelli, Ijora and delta IV.

1976 - AIC establishes Engineering Division through joint ventures Company with the UK Balfour Betty Engineering and named Engineering & Power Development Nigeria Limited (EPDN) First office established in Lagos.

1977 - EPDN awarded major Irrigation studies for four areas in Bauchi State Covering 47,000 hectares

first branch office established in Bauchi

AIC and EPDN part of Amcord (Nigeria) Ltd consortium that successfully undertakes the turnkey construction of Birnin Kebbi army Barracks.

1979 - Chief Harry Ayoade Akande first given a chieftaincy title.

1980 - AIC in conjunction with Wimpey construction of UK undertakes the hydro –electric power installation and construction of Oyan dam.

1982 - AIC and EPDN undertake the detailed design and technical supervision of the Balanga Dam & irrigation scheme thus seeing through to completion their first major brief.

AIC forms first oversea affiliate in The University of health science s, Antigua (UHSA) school of Medicine
1984 - AIC working with PCI and Jos Hansen sees completion of their Oshogbo-Ede water supply Scheme; at the time one of the Largest water projects in Africa at 35mgd capacity .

1987 - Chief Akande selected to receive the outstanding 20-year Alumnus Award by Hampton, USA.

1988 - AIC secures African development Bank (ADB) finance the sum of $70 million for Bauchi Township Project setting the precedence for many subsequent schemes.

1989 - AIC secures $120 million ADB finance for the Benin City and Warri Effurun 35mgd water supply project.

1991 - AIC appointed to oversee the complete rehabilitation and refurbishment of Nigeria’s National Arts theatre.

1994 - AIC appointed consultants for the reconstruction of the Ibadan –Ilorin highway .136km of four –Lane dual carriage way ADB financed.

AIC, undertakes Investment Feasibility Study for Pointe–a-Pierre Refinery in Trinidad.

1995 - the Keffi /Akwanga and Doma Water Supply Scheme, engineered and Supervised by AIC completed ADB financed at $165million.

Chief Harry Ayoade Akande elected to the honorary chieftaincy title of Agbaoye of Ibadanland.

AIC celebrates their 40th company anniversary and 40 years of excellence.
